Green Schools Awards Program
Green Schools

The Buncombe County Green Schools Award Program provides all Buncombe County Schools the opportunity to embed environmental stewardship into the culture of the school. Schools participating in this recognition program document the variety of environmental programs, activities, actions, and happenings occurring at their school. In doing so, their efforts are recognized through the BCS Green Schools Awards Program. This program is about connecting students and faculty with their community and the environment both locally and globally. The BCS Green Schools Awards Program is aligned with the NC Green Schools Program, North Carolina's state Green Schools recognition program. By using the same organization and categories with rubrics, Buncombe County schools can progress more easily and with a clearer understanding of potential pathways to higher levels of accomplishment, perhaps state and even national recognition.

BCS Green Schools Program Goals:
- Recognize our schools’ efforts pertaining to environmental awareness, energy savings, and water conservation, and other forms of environmental stewardship.
- Construct a manageable awards program that engages students, teachers, and the community.
- Reward participating Buncombe County Schools' efforts at a Buncombe County Board of Education meeting.
