Energy Management

Welcome to Buncombe County School's energy management webpage! Here you will find everything you need to know about our energy management program.

School districts all over the country have found that smart energy choices can help them save money, provide healthier, more effective learning environments, and reduce maintenance costs. On top of all of these benefits, saving energy is also good for the environment. Everyone can play a role in energy conservation--even by turning off the lights in a classroom every time you leave--energy is saved. Of course, it's hard to see the individual benefits of one small change, but if we can engage all of our students, teachers and staff to play a collective role the payoff will be substantial.

In a typical school, heating and cooling systems (HVAC) account for nearly 50-60% of the energy consumed, while lighting accounts for roughly 20-30% of energy consumed. The potential for energy conservation through behavior modification, optimizing operational efficiency, purchasing energy-efficient equipment, and retrofitting or replacing inefficient lighting is immense. Our goal is to work in conjunction with schools and across departments to maximize energy and cost savings.

Continuing with the progress that we have already made in conserving energy and reducing costs, Buncombe County Schools is excited to develop an energy management program that will allow our district to realize significant savings and contribute to a cleaner environment. This program will provide faculty and staff with energy saving strategies that help form new habits, but will also help to ensure that we are using our facilities in the most energy conscious manner possible.
