Week in Review



This Veterans Day, the Erwin High School JROTC "Warrior" Battalion honored those who have served by appearing in two special video features shared on social media. The first feature, Honoring Our Veterans, includes several statements from the cadets about why they celebrate this important day. Students Celebrate Veterans Day
As pictured above, schools across the county planned special celebrations for those who have served- or currently serve- in the United States military. One such program was held at Enka Middle School, which included a flag folding ceremony, reading from the WWI poem, "In Flanders Field," and musical performances.

Pisgah Elementary Recognized in Washington, D.C.
School leaders attended the 2016 National Blue Ribbon Schools Awards Ceremony in Washington D.C. on Monday and Tuesday. They were recognized among over 300 public and private schools nationwide for their high achievement!

Photo Gallery: Cane Creek Career Fair
At Cane Creek Middle School’s Career Fair, students asked professionals in the community about choosing their occupations. From horticulture and machining to medicine and law enforcement, the event gave students plenty of fascinating future career paths to consider as they continue to explore their own interests and strengths. Principal Karen Barnhill explained that it is part of the school's effort to help students eventually find their niche in a diverse, 21st-century, global economy.

Accolades for North Buncombe Band Leader
The bands at North Buncombe High School are showing that the fine arts in Buncombe County are first class! Mr. Andrew Shelton, North Buncombe's band Director, has earned two prestigious awards for his work with the Blackhawks.

Preserving History at Community High
Swannanoa's Community High is scheduled for a much-needed renovation, but the building's history will prevent it from being entirely rebuilt. According to the Black Mountain News, "major renovations and new construction are in store for the building that was once Swannanoa High School and is now Community High School... Plans call for renovating the historic facade and building a new school building behind it."

Rockets Blast to Top of Conference
#BCS Sports fans and students at A.C. Reynolds High School have reason for celebrating this fall as two teams of Rockets blasted to the top! The Rockets' varsity Football (3A/4A) and Soccer (Boys 3A) teams each earned the title of 2016 Mountain Athletic Conference (MAC) Champions in their respective arenas!

Blackhawks Cheer Takes Two Titles
The North Buncombe High Competition Team earned two titles at this weekend's competition:  Mountain Regional Pre-State First Place Winner and Supreme Theme Winner! The team posted some great high-energy photos and videos of the competition and their performances.
