Week in Review



#BCS cheerleaders dominated at the 14th annual North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) Cheerleading Championships held in Raleigh this month! Buncombe County athletes made their community proud when teams from Clyde A. Erwin High, North Buncombe High, and T.C. Roberson High each took home state titles in their respective divisions.

WLOS-TV's Never Stop Learning: Mini Mayflower
In celebration of the Thanksgiving holiday, forth-graders at Johnston Elementary took on a challenging task! Working together and using only recycled materials, students created their own miniature version of the Mayflower- the ship that brought the pilgrims from Plymouth to the New World in 1620.

Honoring Heritage at Koontz
At Koontz Intermediate School, students celebrate their rich heritage through the sights, sounds, and tastes of different countries. This year's Heritage Night was the fourth annual such celebration, and about 1200 students and parents came together for the event! See our social media post and WLOS' coverage.

Rockets Revere their Soccer Coach of the Year
After 18 seasons with Reynolds' boys soccer, coach Patrick Gladys has been named the state's NCHSAA 3-A Soccer Coach of the Year by the NC Soccer Coaches Association! In 2014, Gladys was named the 3-A Girls Soccer Coach of the Year.

National Grant for Erwin High
Clyde A. Erwin High School was chosen from over 500 applicants across the nation to receive a grant from the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development to invest in school climate and culture.

The 2016 All County Band Concert, featuring 188 students from all BCS middle and high schools, will be held in North Buncombe High School's DeBruhl Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29.
