Owen High Dynasty Team

Meet the Owen High Dynasty Team! Between 1964 and 1970, the Owen's girls basketball team made history with an incredible 90 game winning streak, and no one could stand in their way! During this time, girls teams had no state championships to compete in, so to make the record right, the school unveiled a new "Dynasty" team banner that will hang high and mark their incredible feat for all future generations. Buncombe Bonus from General Assembly
As reported by the Citizen-Times, "More than 300 clerical and custodial workers for Buncombe County Schools will get a bonus early next year under a plan approved by school board members Thursday night. The General Assembly provided some money in the most recent budget for one-time, merit-based bonuses..."

Students Serenade the Board of Education
A group of talented young singers from Sand Hill-Venable Elementary sang their hearts out at December's Board of Education regular meeting! The group performed holiday songs and the whole thing was broadcast via Facebook Live. Two new board representatives, Ms. Donna Pate and Mrs. Peggy Buchanan, were also sworn in at the eventful meeting. Be sure to see the photos of the meeting and festive performance!

Tragedy Brings Community Together
A family and the BCS community suffered a tragic loss last week when two loved young students William W. Estes Elementary and Charles T. Koontz Intermediate passed away. Estes Principal John Barbour has announced efforts through Eblen Charities to assist the family involved.
