If you were a student at Black Mountain Primary, you probably remember PE Teacher John Gibson! Mr. Gibson has taught PE at Black Mountain Primary for 29 years. “When I teach in my gym, I feel like it’s my space. I’m the Walt Disney of my gym. I enjoy that about my job,” he says.

Buncombe Board Passes Energy-Saving Initiative
BCS is saving money and energy one LED light bulb at a time! Our school district has begun a process to switch out old fluorescent lighting in all of our schools and county office building with more energy efficient LED lighting. Teacher Campus Open House
Progress continues on the Williams-Baldwin Teacher Campus and an open house was held last Friday to give potential residents a chance to see the complex personally! This 24-unit apartment complex will house Buncombe County and Asheville City School teachers. There is still availability to move in this Spring when the apartments are complete. They are open to licensed teachers- 18 from Buncombe County and 6 from Asheville City Schools.

Avery's Creek Career Fair
Students at Avery’s Creek Elementary are figuring out what they want to be when they grow up! Students explored law enforcement, emergency services, and even meteorology at their annual career fair.

National School Breakfast Week
"This week, kids across the country are being encouraged to eat healthy and try new foods... Breakfast is served to 12,000 kids every day in the county schools, and students know it's important to start their day with a healthy dish."

Congratulations to junior Anna Newnam of the T. C. Roberson High School swim team for being selected as the Ingles Markets Athlete of the Week!

Battle of the Books
Students representing BCS middle and intermediate schools are showing off their book smarts by answering trivia questions based on 24 books they had to read!

Haw Creek's Living Museum
Fifth graders at Haw Creek Elementary held a Living Museum as part of their lesson about the American Revolution! Students researched, then portrayed many famous American and British characters including Paul Revere, George and Martha Washington, Benedict Arnold, King George III, and Betsy Ross.

Erwin's Warrior Battalion to Host Carver Drill Meet
On Saturday, March 18, the Warrior Battalion of Clyde A. Erwin High School will be hosting the annual Mitch Carver Drill Meet- an event in honor of the school's graduate who fell in battle on January 13 of 2006. JROTC programs from across WNC will attend along with the Carver family to perform drills and pay their respects.
