Barnardsville's Playground Project
The kids at Barnardsville Elementary have been eagerly awaiting this day for over a year! Their newly renovated playground, which passed inspection and was dedicated on April 1st is now open to students for the very first time.

School Board Reassures Immigrant Families
Amid fears of stepped-up immigration enforcement, Buncombe County's elected school board members sought to reassure families that “school is a safe place.” The board adopted a resolution reaffirming the district’s mandate to “enroll students regardless of their immigration status and without discrimination.” Learn more in this Citizen-Times article.

As reported by WLOS: "A Buncombe County student is adjusting to a new device that could be a life changer for him. When we arrived, it was lunch time at T.C. Roberson. For Progressive Education Program student Cody Henry, it was more like show and tell."

Congratulations to North Buncombe High School's runners who took over the 1,500 meter event, and teammate Blake Mathews who was voted the boys MVP.

Students@Work Week
Most people haven't explored a helicopter, melted glass, touched a pig's lung, or inspected a power line, but that's how over 850 middle schoolers from Buncombe County Schools spent their week, when 25 local businesses hosted them as part of the statewide Students@Work Week.

Western Carolina Regional Math Contest
Several BCS students and teams showed off their mathematics knowledge and abilities at the Math Contest hosted by WCU's Department of Mathematics and Computer Science! Over 500 students and 30 schools put their skills to the test.

Warhorse Athlete Breaking Records

Chesney Gardner, who "broke the Owen discus record of 67-feet-3-inches with a 105-foot-3-inch throw at Reynolds last April, broke her own school record by almost a foot on March 29 at the Buncombe County track meet." (Citizen-Times)
