Teachers and students parade down the halls of Woodfin Elementary School. If you would-not-could-not stop reading your favorite books, you’d be in good company with Buncombe County Schools students, who celebrated Read Across America Day in style on Friday.

Parades of students and teachers dressed up as Dr. Seuss characters and caroused down the halls of BCS elementary schools during the special event, which calls for “every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss,” according to the National Education Association’s website.

“I love Read Across America Day,” said Woodfin Elementary School ESL teacher Julie Feldkmap. “It encourages teachers and students to engage in reading and talking about books that they are interested in. Dr. Seuss did a lot of creative writing, and kids like to talk about it.”

“We celebrate literacy learning every day at Woodfin, but today is one of those extra special days when we stop to appreciate and celebrate the great literary works that continue to move our readers and writers forward,” said Woodfin Principal April Wright.

Many of our schools celebrated their love of reading along with Dr. Seuss' birthday this week. Here are some of their social media posts.
