Buncombe County Schools
The Week in Review

Students pose at the Photo Booth as part of the April 25, 2018, Top Scholar Awards Banquet.

Every day, BCS students learn through exploration, engage the community, and prepare for tomorrow. Our Week in Review brings you these stories of educational achievement and success in Buncombe County Schools.

We couldn't pick just one social media Post of the Week, because two stories really stole the show with our online community:

Our Top Scholars
Every year, BCS honors the top performing students from our high schools at the Top Scholar Awards Banquet. About 350 people gathered to honor 104 accomplished students. It's a celebration of their hard work and dedication to education, as well as a meaningful send-off as these students begin the next big chapter in their lives. This year's keynote speaker was Mr. Matt Lutz, a '97 Owen High graduate, actor, and Artistic Director of Front Porch Theatre at the Black Mountain Center for the Arts. Our first Post of the Week is the Citizen-Times gallery from the awards banquet! Stay tuned this week for our Top Story and photo gallery. Special thanks to Surry Insurance for their generous sponsorship this year. And, thanks to our annual sponsors Becky's Florist, LifeTouch, and The Asheville Renaissance.

Everyone is Welcome: Equality in Education (Video)
"Everything is equal when you walk in the doors of a public school. You get a great education, you're cared for, and you're loved." ~ Mr. Brian Chandler, Principal, West Buncombe Elementary School
