Superintendent's Comments

Fund Transfer I want to begin by thanking our county commissioners for transferring the remaining appropriation of operating funds to our budget. The 1.56 million dollars represented a significant majority of salary and benefit costs for our locally paid staff throughout the district. This transfer is also significant to allow Ms. Deborah Frisby the resources to present a balanced annual budget to you, the Board, at our October meeting.

More School Resource Officers Likewise, I want to express our appreciation for supporting the expansion of SROs into our elementary and intermediate schools. While school resource officers are assigned at each middle and high school, the additional six officers will increase the coverage of the elementary and intermediate schools to two officers for each of the six districts.

Focus on Safety We continue to designate school safety to receive the highest of priorities. Statewide, this month has been declared Safe Schools Month by our DPI and State Superintendent Mark Johnson. Our state legislature provided their emphasis by providing $35 million in grant funding for various school safety-related programs, of which $22 million has been awarded. I am pleased to say that we are in the category of awardees with $333,000 allotted for SROs in addition to $230,000 for Behavioral Health Specialists and training. We have applied for and are currently awaiting news on a $120,000 request for school safety equipment including door entry control systems.

School Grades and Performance I’m proud of our recently released accountability results from the 2017-18 school year. That report is posted under the announcements on our district website
