Carolina Panthers/Toshiba Coach of the Week: Shane Laws, A.C. Reynolds High
Congratulations to A.C. Reynolds High School's football coach Shane Laws! He's been named a Carolina Panther/Toshiba Coach of the Week. He's one of ten chosen from across the #Carolinas for this distinction.

“The Carolina Panthers and Toshiba are proud to recognize some of the region’s most outstanding high school football coaches who give tirelessly to their teams, schools and communities. The impact made by these coaches goes well beyond the playing field,” said Riley Fields, Carolina Panthers Director of Community Relations.

Sixth Graders' Robot Obstacle Course (North Windy Ridge Intermediate)
It's hard to ignore the cool-factor when it comes to robots! So, when we heard that sixth-graders in Mr. Russell Thompson's STEM class at North Windy Ridge Intermediate School were designing robots that could complete obstacle courses challenges, we had to see it for ourselves.

The Enka District celebrated the completed restoration of their iconic jet.

Enka Jet Back in Action
Enka Middle School students aren’t just proud to be Jets; they’re proud to HAVE a jet. It’s the school’s unique honor to feature a 1953 Republic Fairchild RF-84F Thunderflash jet right in front of the building. The jet, called the “Spirit of Enka,” has a fresh look after a four-year restoration effort.

We’re proud of innovative math educators like K12 mathematics specialist Stefanie Buckner and elementary/intermediate mathematics instructional coaches Kristine Schmitt and Meg McKee. They work collaboratively with teachers across the district to plan and implement exciting, engaging, and rigorous mathematics instruction in their classrooms.

North Buncombe High School's basketball star Ren Dyer scored his 1000th career point on Thursday in their game against Madison!

Erwin Middle and High: Carol of the Bells (#BCSlive Video)
The spacious WNC Farmers Market was filled with the sounds of the holidays when voices came together from Clyde A. Erwin High and Clyde A Erwin Middle schools. As visitors and locals perused the market, they paused to listen to the beautiful songs, some even adding their voices to the mix. (Also, see the Owen High String Ensemble's performance earlier in the week!)

When you need a break from playing in the snow and are ready for a tasty and refreshing snack, North Buncombe High School has an idea for you! Golden Apple for Reynolds Middle's Ms. Kahn (WYFF)
Eighth-grade A.C. Reynolds Middle School teacher Sara Kahn has earned the distinction of being nominated for the WYFF News 4 Golden Apple Award! Trinity, the student who nominated her, says that Ms. Kahn is like a second mom to her students. Her students feel welcomed and appreciated in her class.

You'll want to hear these talented Charles D. Owen High School singers that make up the all-female barbershop quartet Fourmata! These incredible students paid a visit to our December Board of Education gathering, sharing with us their upbeat, festive, and unforgettable songs. Here's a unique and playful take on "'Twas the Night Before Christmas."

Students at the Martin L. Nesbitt, Jr. Discovery Academy are passing along their valuable bowling know-how. The physical education classes at NDA just wrapped up their bowling unit and they decided to reach out to Emma Elementary for some bowling fun!

Students across the country are getting hands-on experience with the world of computer science during Computer Science Education Week! Here in Buncombe County, students are learning to think critically and digitally about real-life scenarios as they code with various devices. Erwin Hall of Fame Adds Big Names (Citizen-Times)
The Clyde A. Erwin High Warriors will add these well known names to the school's Hall of Fame next week: Charlie Metcalf, David Ball, Rick Waldrop, and Chris Hawkins. The Hall of Fame induction is currently scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 25.

Fairview Dads Club
Tristen Teran is one of the newer members of the Fairview Dads Club. His daughter is a kindergartener this year at Fairview Elementary School. He says the FES Dads Club has helped him get more involved in the school. “I like the fact that we are getting Dads more involved in their kids’ lives,” Teran said. “We can be strong male role models for them. That’s important.”
