Purposity: Connecting Purpose and Generosity
In collaboration with Asheville City Schools, BCS is excited to announce our new partnership with the Purposity smartphone app. Purposity (purpose + generosity) is designed to connect the individual, unique needs of our students with caring donors from right here in our community.

Several groups of 8th graders from Charles D. Owen Middle School performed during last week's Asheville Storytelling Circle's Spring Art Show. The school posted photos from their experience together!

Remembering on Memorial Day
Schools around the nation honored the lives of those who paid the ultimate price price our country this Memorial Day. Here are some great examples of the activities that happened locally, including a Reynolds High and Haw Creek Elementary concert and a JROTC Ceremony at T.C. Roberson High.

Hominy Valley Dances with LEAF
BCS students experience art from around the world thanks to a valuable partnership with LEAF Community Arts. Throughout the year, LEAF organizes artist-in-residence experiences in our schools. From dance to puppeteering, we show our students a glimpse of different cultures and different avenues of expression.

'The Nest' at North Buncombe (WLOS)
North Buncombe High School students are getting a real-world lesson in how to run a successful business. "The Nest" opened for business! The Occupational Course of Study students there were selling clothing items through their store for just a dollar. The money raised will go back into their program to support other initiatives.

Discovery Academy Wins First Place
School clubs provide creative outlets for students to dig into their individual interests! A Discovery Academy club secured a first-place win at the TSA state competition in Greensboro last month, while the robotics team and CAD engineering entry both won third place.

Playing with Police in Black Mountain
Black Mountain Elementary recently hosted some special visitors during recess. According to Principal Nicole Roberts, Black Mountain Police Department (BMPD) officers spent some time with students at recess playing games and enjoying the warm weather.

Butterflies at Bell Elementary
Students at Charles C. Bell Elementary School got an up-close look at the life cycle of butterflies this semester. They read about butterfly life cycles, kept journals, and watched their lives unfold.

Career Day at Woodfin Elementary
Students at Woodfin Elementary School had a great time during their career day. Thanks to everyone in the community who came out to support our students and inspire them to focus on their future!

Journeyman Program Coming to Enka Middle
Mentorship is the gift of a lifetime, and thanks to a recent grant, a new program is coming to Enka Middle School. Journeymen Asheville is the recipient of a $5,000 grant that will be used to create and manage a mentoring group for eighth-grade boys at Enka Middle 2019-20 and 2020-21 school years.

Clyde A. Erwin High's Tristian Brank has received another offer to play college ball...this one from Tennessee Tech.

Pregame Pep Talk for Roberson Soccer (Video)
"It's not about your record. It's about who you are," said Principal Nathan Allison in an impromptu pregame speech for the record books. Principal Allison spoke on the bus just before the girls soccer team left T.C. Roberson High School school for the state championship game. The team had an amazing season finished as the state runner-up.
