BCS Cares: Making a Difference in Our Community

BCS staff contributed $49,767.12 during the 2020-21 BCS Cares campaign to help area students and families in need.

One of our core values in Buncombe County Schools is to invest purposefully, and the annual BCS Cares employee giving campaign is an important way that our organization realizes this aim.

We're proud that BCS staff personally contributed $49,767.12 during the 2020-21 BCS Cares campaign to help area students and families in need during one of the most challenging seasons our community has faced. More than ever, community organizations are playing a vital role in supporting those facing hardships of many kinds as result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Through employee donations to Eblen Charities, the United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County, and the BCS Foundation, families have increased access to school supplies, clothing, housing, food, home heating assistance, and other essential services. Additionally, the BCS Foundation funds innovative educational projects, teacher grants, student scholarships, and more.

"It says so much that our school family gave from their hearts to support these wonderful partners," said Associate Superintendent Ms. Susanne Swanger. "I am so appreciative of how the BCS Foundation, Eblen Charities, and the United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County have adapted what they do to support and care for our students, families, and staff members during these challenging times."

The 2020-21 BCS Cares campaign was organized by committee members Bev Benfield, Susanne Swanger, Brian Propst, Stephanie Davis, Suzanne Gavenus, and Benjamin Rickert.
