BCS Raises Pay; Job Fair is Aug. 7

A bus driver sitting in her bus and smiling. Buncombe County Schools (BCS) announces that pay checks for all employees are going up thanks to a 2 percent increase from the state beginning this school year.

Many support staff positions earn a beginning pay of more than $13 per hour. BCS is proud to offer our employees a living wage as well as many other benefits. Fulltime employees earn vacation time, sick leave, longevity pay, plus enrollment in the state health plan and retirement system.

This summer, the BCS Human Resources Department is working to fill numerous support positions such as maintenance and clerical staff, bus drivers, custodians, and instructional assistants. We are especially interested in recruiting more bus drivers. In fact, we are pleased to announce that new bus drivers will make almost $16 per hour.

There will be a support staff job fair on Tuesday, Aug. 7, from 9 a.m. until noon in the Nesbitt Discovery Academy cafeteria, located at 175 Bingham Road. Representatives from many departments will be available to answer questions and help with the application process.

“BCS support staff play a crucial role in our students’ days, and we are hoping to hire caring and committed employees for this upcoming school year,” said Cynthia Lopez, BCS Human Resources director. “Right now, we are able to offer our employees many benefits that make working for BCS a win-win. Now is the time to join our team."
