Mini-mester 2018 helps high school students graduate.

Buncombe County Schools’ Graduation Initiative will again offer high school courses during our Mini-mester program this summer. Students may enroll in a new course or may recover a previously failed credit through online course recovery. The program is open to any Buncombe County Schools student in grades 10-12. Priority will be given to students who need the credits to graduate on time or to get back on track toward graduation. Typically, we do not have room for 9th graders but will consider repeating 9th graders if room permits.

We will offer a combination of new courses that are taught by a teacher and also course recovery classes that are completed online. Courses tentatively scheduled to be offered in the face to face instructional mode include English IV, English III, Senior Project Seminar, Math 4, Math 3, Biology, Civics, American History 1, and American History 2. The final determination of courses to be offered will be based on student requests and budget. The new courses will be taught in the morning session from 8:30 to 12:00. The course recovery options are offered from 9:30 -12:00 and 12:30 – 3:00. The Senior Project Seminar is also 12:30 – 3:00.

When you complete the online application please pay close attention to the question regarding whether or not you are requesting a new course you have never taken before or if you are requesting to re-take a course previously failed. With counselor recommendation, a student who has previously failed a course that is offered in the face to face instructional mode in Mini-mester and who would likely be more successful repeating the course in a face to face environment rather than online, can possibly retake the course in the face to face class, if space permits.

Mini-mester begins June 27th and ends August 2nd. Classes will meet Monday through Thursday and will be held on the campus of Clyde A Erwin High School. Directions will be provided upon acceptance of your registration application. Students must provide their own transportation.

The online Mini-mester application is now available.
