ENTHUSIASM AND EXCITEMENT are everywhere as the first day of class starts for students in Buncombe County Schools. However, Buncombe County Schools’ athletic teams are now entering the third week of the 2017 fall athletic season. Our athletic directors and coaches are working diligently to provide the best athletic programs for the student athletes of our schools. In fact, athletes have been working hard all summer and fall teams are now playing games and matches. With a new and uncharted season ahead, enthusiasm is high in anticipation of success on the field and court.

It is important to note that success in athletics goes beyond facilities or even wins and losses. Success is about providing a positive learning experience where student athletes can grow physically, socially, emotionally, and academically. It’s about focusing on our shared values that inspire excellence and sportsmanship. Athletic programs in Buncombe County Schools have been very successful toward achieving this positive experience as we served more than 5,400 athletes last year. Our student athletes continue to excel on the playing field, court, and as leaders in the classroom.

In striving to provide the best athletic programs, BCS is committed to providing the best athletic facilities in Western North Carolina. From new turf fields in our stadiums, to new lights on our baseball and softball fields, to newly painted gym floor designs, to resurfaced tracks, to installation of scoreboards and improvements in spectator seating, Buncombe County Schools has led the way in the development of athletic facilities. Future athletic facility improvements will continue with the installation of two new turf fields in the summer of 2018 and the construction of a 10-lane swimming pool by the end of 2018. These are exciting times for student athletes in Buncombe County Schools.

Every season, our student athletes reach new heights, led by staff dedicated to their success. We will continue to improve the quality of our athletic programs so our students can keep soaring.
