A school is more than a building; it is a community centered around the goal of preparing each student for his or her future. With the help of county commissioners, community members, taxpayers, parents, educators, and stakeholders, each school in Buncombe County exists for this purpose. In this video feature, Preparing for Tomorrow, step inside seven schools that opened their doors for the first time between 2001 and 2016 and see what makes them a special place for students!

This video was debuted at the Buncombe County Schools Board of Education meeting held on January 12, 2017 which was attended by former commissioners David Gantt and Holly Jones.

Superintendent Dr. Tony Baldwin gives a heartfelt thank you to the Buncombe County Commissioners, including Gantt and Jones.

Dr. Baldwin explains, "The directive of Buncombe County Schools is to prepare our students for their tomorrow- helping them become successful, responsible citizens in an ever-changing global society. The support of our county commission has been integral to successfully accomplishing that directive. Without the local dollar appropriations, we could not maintain the standard of excellence that our school system exhibits in areas such as cultural arts, world languages, physical education, and a high quality teacher workforce. Likewise, they have supported funding for capital needs including new schools and major renovations."

"We extend our gratitude to the Buncombe County Commissioners. It is also quite fitting that we recognize the contributions that David Gantt and Holly Jones have made to our school system during their tenure."

The schools highlighted in this project are as follows:
• Cane Creek Middle
• Hominy Valley Elementary
• North Windy Ridge Intermediate
• Joe P. Eblen Intermediate
• Charles T. Koontz Intermediate
• Martin L Nesbitt Discovery Academy
• Enka Intermediate
