Reynolds High Student Council Honors Staff

Student leaders at A.C. Reynolds High School (ACRHS) served a delightful thank-you luncheon to custodians and nutrition staff on Wednesday.

The school’s student council raised more than twice as much money as they expected, allowing them to have a catered meal and lots of goodies for BCS staff members who have worked so hard to keep students well fed and safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We started with a goal of $413, but two days later, we had $849,” said ACRHS math teacher and Student Council Advisor Katie Klinker. “So our community really stepped up.”

Students served a hearty meal to the staff and handed them another to-go meal, along with personally monogrammed gift bags. The bags included water bottles, gift cards, socks, hats, gloves, candy, lotion, hand sanitizer, homemade masks, and more.

Longtime ACRHS custodian and bus driver Edgar Waters was impressed by the students’ efforts.

“They’ve done great,” he said. “It’s good to see them doing this, thinking of others and doing service.”

In January, the ACRHS Student Council started talking about service project ideas and settled on a banquet to honor support staff members for their crucial work, said senior and Student Body President Grace Kerr.

“It was something we all really wanted to happen, because it’s important to the student body,” she said. “They let us know that they wanted to thank the people who feed them and keep the school clean and safe.”

The student council also used the luncheon fundraiser as a way to bring the Reynolds community together during a time of isolation, said ACRHS senior and Student Body Vice President Zach Smith.

“The community responded so fast to our fundraiser, it was almost overwhelming,” he said. “It doubled our goal. It was so exciting and so nice to know that the community appreciates the staff this much.”
