Health Sci Mission Trip

Dr. Wilfong, health science instructor at Owen High School is building upon a legacy that has been a vital part of our school community - preparing the next generation to be capable and caring adults. Her enthusiasm and energy for teaching is matched by the curiosity and talents of our students. Dr. Wilfong arranged an experiential journey for students at Mission Hospital. Students toured the Emergency Department, Interventional Radiology, Cath Lab, and the Medical Surgical Unit. Students became involved in observing and investigating the effects of vaping as they examined pig lungs showing the look of normal lungs and smoker/vaper lungs in comparison. Another opportunity for learning about health occupation fields was arranged with Ms. Kedren Cooper from AB Technical Community College's Medical Sonography Program. She visited Dr. Wilfong's Health Science II class. She described the profession, potential career paths, and the program requirements.  This experience is just one of the many ways that Owen demonstrates the willingness and ability to bring high quality education to our students.
