What a fantastic first day of school! Students and staff were so excited to be back on campus. We had the UNCA swim, baseball and basketball teams here to greet the kids and help them to get home safely. What an amazing outpouring of community support we had today :) School year 24-25 is off to a great start! #wolverinepride #BCSfamily

We are so lucky to have Shelley Hawkins with us at Woodfin! From Shelley: I am so honored to be a part of the Woodfin Elementary Family. Being part of this community has been a great way to start the new school year. My husband and I have 3 wonderful kids, a beautiful daughter in law, and 2 rescue dogs. I love running, hiking, yoga, and binge watching anime! I look forward to working with you this school year.

David Pitot will be the 3rd grade teacher at Woodfin Elementary this year. Welcome, Mr. P! Mr. P is excited to be part of the school community at Woodfin elementary. Originally from New England, Mr. P moved to Asheville this summer from Oregon with his wife and two daughters to be close to family. Mr. P has been teaching since 2004. He has taught physical education, kindergarten, and first grade. When he isn't teaching, he enjoys coaching soccer, golfing, disc golfing, and watching sports of all kinds. He loves hanging out with his cats and misses his favorite dog friend back in Oregon, a big black Newfoundland named Luke. Mr. P looks forward to exploring the area and putting down roots here.

Today all of BCS staff met at A. C. Reynolds High School to kick off the start of the 2024-2025 school year! It was so fun to see all the new and familiar faces. Woodfin staff sat together as Dr. Rob Jackson spoke to the crowd, followed by a fantastic keynote speaker, Steve Pemberton. We will spend the week preparing to welcome students on Monday, August 26th :) #wolverinepride #bcsfamily

Today was another great day at Woodfin Elementary school. Amazing volunteers from Biltmore Church showed up very early this morning to support our school with beautification projects that were much needed. Woodfin elementary continues to prepare for our Wolverines to enter the doors on August 23rd for Open House and our First day on August 26th. Thank you Biltmore Church for your support in creating a beautiful space for our Wolverines to bloom and grow.

Kindergarten camp was just the start of the excitement that student faces are bringing to Woodfin Elementary school. What a wonderful day of working, playing and learning together. Thank you to Ms. Stiles and our wonderful volunteers. We can' t wait to watch our wolverines grow.

Hola, soy Gail Buckner. Estoy muy feliz de regresar a Woodfin Elementary como su entrenadora instructiva. Durante mi carrera, enseñé todos los grados desde preescolar hasta posgrado, trabajé como bibliotecaria escolar y como administradora de la escuela y del distrito. Los estudiantes de segundo grado, quinto grado y los estudiantes universitarios de último año tienen un lugar especial en mi corazón de maestra. En mi tiempo "libre" me gusta leer (la ficción histórica es mi favorita, pero me obligo a leer al menos un texto informativo por mes), hornear (el postre es un grupo de alimentos esencial), estar al aire libre (hacer picnics, chapotear en el lago, sentarme en la playa, no aventuras fuera de la red, piense en "glamping", no en acampar), planificar eventos a gran escala (bodas, reuniones, reuniones sociales familiares de la banda), pasar tiempo con la familia de la banda de NBHS (mi hija es la tambor mayor este año) y, siempre, estar con mi familia. ¡Espero trabajar con usted y tener un gran año en Woodfin!

Woodfin Elementary is excited to welcome back new and returning staff! Hello, I am Gail Buckner. I am very happy to return to Woodfin Elementary as your Instructional Coach. During my career I've taught every grade Pre-K to Post Graduate, served as a school librarian and as a school and district administrator. 2nd graders, 5th graders, and College Seniors hold a special place in my teacher heart. In my "free" time I like to read (historical fiction is my favorite but I make myself read at least one informational text per month), bake (dessert is an essential food group), be outdoors (picnicking, splashing in the lake, sitting on the beach - not off grid adventures, think "glamping" not camping), plan large scale events (weddings, reunions, band family social gatherings), spend time with the NBHS Band Family (my daughter is the Drum Major this year), and always, be with my family. Looking forward to working with you and a great year at Woodfin!

So many amazing opportunities over the last week. Sports camps at UNCA have been so wonderful.. Popsicles with the Principal gave us a wonderful opportunity to meet more of our Wolverine family. Thank you to all of the families that came out and to Mrs. Kim Plemmons for joining us. I am very excited for the upcoming year and look forward to all of the success that our Wolverines are going to have. Together we will rise to greater heights.

Upcoming events at Woodfin Elementary and the Community: August 5th: 3:30-5pm, Popsicles with the Principal on the Playground August 6th: There will be a National Night Out for the Town of Woodfin to include a dunk tank, games, food trucks, a rib eating contest and more. It will be held at 40 N Merrimon Ave @ the Woodfin YMCA from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. All families are welcome.

This Thursday from 9am-6pm, there will be a vaccine clinic at The Warrior Wellness Center located on the campus of Erwin Middle School. This clinic is available to ALL Erwin District families.
