Dr. Jackson continued his 45 schools in 45 days tour at Erwin Middle School (EMS). The school is housed in the building that was originally Clyde A. Erwin High School which was built in 1955. It features sturdy brick buildings and sunny outside walkways. The name Clyde A. Erwin was given in recognition of Clyde A. Erwin, who was a state board of education member and North Carolina state superintendent of public instruction from 1934 – 1952.
"It is difficult for me to narrow down the one thing that makes Clyde A. Erwin Middle School special,” said principal Travis Collins. “We are so many things. I think about our diversity. Our vibrancy. Our inclusivity. That we are welcoming warriors. That we value relationships and understand that when we work together and when we work hard, anything is possible."
EMS is made up of 7th and 8th-grade students, primarily from Eblen Intermediate School. Approximately 580 students attend Clyde A. Erwin Middle School.
