⚾🦃❤️ Progressive Education Program (PEP) families won’t be stressing over the dressing this year after the T.C. Roberson High School baseball team donated boxes of food as part of an annual Thanksgiving tradition.
Led by Head Coach Eric Filipek, senior players divided the team into groups that separately shopped for, sorted, and delivered the food to PEP on Monday. It’s part of a long history of leadership and care that defines the special relationship between Roberson’s baseball team and PEP. Players serve as escorts to the PEP Prom, they work with PEP students as peer tutors, and they host an adaptive baseball league. They helped build additional handicap-accessible seating at the baseball stadium, and PEP students throw the first pitch at every home game.
“This helps me feel like I’m doing more to give back to our community, especially with what’s happened and the rebuilding that’s been happening,” said Senior catcher Asher Ring. “And our relationship with PEP runs deep. We feel like a big family.”
PEP Principal Dr. Thea Wilson said the baseball team means a lot to her students and their families.
“It’s so valuable to see these authentic relationships between age-level peers,” she said. “And this year in particular, with all the disruptions from Helene, this help at Thanksgiving lets our families breathe a sigh of relief.”
