"The NC School Report Cards website contains snapshots of information about our schools, including the school performance grade, students’ academic growth, how prepared our students are when they enter a school, and a number of other measures as well," said NC Superintendent Catherine Truitt. "These resources are readily available for you and allow transparency into aspects like spending as well as school performance. Although this information is important to know, we know it doesn’t tell the complete story. It doesn’t show the hard work our educators pour in each day for their students and schools and it doesn’t show the spirit of the school itself. No data will be able to show the dedication of our educators nor will it show the extracurricular opportunities, the athletic programs, the apprenticeship, or career preparatory classes - all of which have a profound impact on students and growth."

Congratulations to our newest National Board Certified Teacher, Ms. Wilson!!!!
Becoming a board certified teacher is an incredible journey of growth, reflection, and dedication to student success. What a huge achievement! 🙌🏫 #NBCT #CertifiedEducator #TeachingExcellence

Last week ACES kindergarteners went on a field trip to the fire station, police station and post office! Part of the kindergarten curriculum is looking at how students connect to the world around them including their classroom, their school and their community. Students from Ms. Willson's class had a great time learning about their community helpers!

We need volunteers to make this a success! Please email acespto@gmail.com if you can help next week!

Avery's Creek 4th grade Honors Choir students sang at the Flat Rock Playhouse over the weekend. A huge thank you to Ms. Melody and Ms. McDonald for providing students with this amazing opportunity! #ACES #BCSFAMILY

A few weeks ago, 2nd grade ACES students went on a field trip to the Cradle of Forestry in Pisgah National Forest. Students in 2nd grade begin the year learning about how leaves change color and how animals adapt to the change of seasons. This field trip was a great way to bring all of their learning to life! #BCS #ACES

This November first grade has been celebrating Native American Heritage month. This week they had a visit from a Cherokee storyteller and heard many stories about animals. They are currently studying fables in their Wit and Wisdom lessons and this brought that learning to life!

There is so much fun and learning happening in the ACES specialists' rooms. In Ms. Melody's music class first graders are playing the musical game, "The Old Gray Cat is Sleeping" and dancing to the "Autumn Leaves Song." Also, students from Ms. Galetovic's class had fun playing with the parachute in PE last week!

Today ACES kindergarten and fourth grade students enjoyed a holiday meal with their families in the the school cafeteria. It was so great to see so many smiling faces :) A special thanks to our wonderful cafeteria workers for such a fantastic meal!

Wow! What an amazing day of arts and culture we had at ACES yesterday. Bright Star Theatre performed for all grade levels. They performed a bilingual rendition of Little Red Riding Hood for our Kindergarten, First and Second grade students. Then they performed a show called: Tremendous Tales and Real-Life Legends From the Spanish Speaking World for our Third and Fourth grade students. The students loved watching and participating in the performance. Staff celebrated Hispanic Heritage month by sharing cultural dishes and decorations in the staff lounge. #ramfam #bcs #wearebcs

What a fun day at Avery's Creek! Classes celebrated earning their whole class dot- on -the- spot with a fun dance party outside! We are so proud of our students for modeling RAMS expectations. Even the staff got in on the fun. After the students left staff had a trunk-or-treat party in the media center. #ACES #ramfam #BCS

Fun in the ACES media center!
Third grade teacher, Mr. Worley, trying on his Shark Attack gear. Students in 3rd grade have been studying marine scientists and just finished up reading the book Shark Attack.
In the library, fourth graders just finished up an author study of Duncan Tonatiuh, a Mexican American author and illustrator. They took a virtual reality tour of Mexico City to look at some of the murals that inspired his art.
Fourth graders from Ms. Mai's class checking out some ACES favorites, Amulet and Minecraft.

Students in 2nd Grade had a great time at Holmes State Educational State Forest. Students learned from Talking Trees, they counted tree rings, and checked the weather with a Forest Ranger.
