Congratulations to Cane Creek Middle School's Hannah-Grace Tweedie and Asheville Middle School’s Ace Wilkins. These two students are this year’s Do the Write Thing (DtWT) contest winners!
DtWT is the flagship program of the National Campaign to Stop Violence (NCSV). Through writing prompts, the program encourages middle school students to examine the impact of violence in our society and to communicate their insight into solutions. By emphasizing this personal responsibility and the power of words, DtWT seeks to empower young people to reduce violence in their homes, schools, and communities.
Hannah-Grace and Ace’s essays were judged by a panel of volunteers and ranked the overall winners from Buncombe County Schools and Asheville City Schools. Both students will go on to represent our community at the national DtWT conference in Washington, D.C. They will also have their writing published in the Library of Congress.
Locally, the 12 finalists who participated in the contest and their families were recognized last Wednesday at the DtWT Awards dinner. Congratulations to these students!
