Serenity Room

When teachers at Koontz Intermediate need a few moments to catch their breath during busy school days, they now have the perfect space to find peace -- The Serenity Room. This new room was created in partnership with school administrators, staff, and The Christos Foundation.

“The goal of this room is to provide a special space for teachers where they can step away from their classrooms and have a space focused on the needs and wants,” said Katie Cannington of the Christos Foundation.

The room is stocked with snacks and beverages, comfortable furniture, soothing colors, and dim lights.

Principal Reggie Bright says the serenity room isn’t a teacher workroom. It’s an inviting space that encourages teachers to relax and recharge.

“I have been really surprised by how many teachers have taken advantage of this new tool for making each day more productive,” said Principal Reggie Bright.

This partnership is a priority for the Christos Foundation, which has partnered with Koontz on other projects to benefit staff.

“Christos feels that teachers are one of the most integral positions in our community,” said Cannington. “We want to do a small part to show them our gratitude for what teachers do each and every day. This is the first space of this kind for many educators.”

The Christos Foundation, which is a nationwide faith-based nonprofit,  hopes to partner with other schools, parents, and the community to bring Serenity Rooms to even more BCS staff members. If you’d like to help, please visit http://serve828.org/.
