At W.D. Williams Elementary, the kindergarteners were in for a treat, a Seuss-tacular breakfast - green eggs and ham - to eat!
The day had arrived for Read Across America, and their teacher Mrs. Turner had a story in hand. She held up a book, all tattered but grand, and read in a voice both cheery and planned.
“Would you eat them in a house? Would you eat them with a mouse?,” Mrs. Turner read.
The kids all chimed in, giggling with glee, but when the real food arrived - oh, what would they see?
On plates it was waiting, all wobbly and bright, eggs as green as a Grinch on a cold winter night! Some students leaned forward, excited to chew, while others sat back, unsure what to do.
One brave young soul, with fork in his hand, took a small bite, and oh, it was grand!
“I DO like green eggs and ham,” he declared.
And soon all his classmates were equally dared.
They munched and they crunched, they gobbled with cheer, even the picky ones grinned ear to ear. By the end of the meal, not a crumb was in sight, just happy full bellies and hearts feeling light.
Mrs. Turner smiled wide and pulled out one more book filled with rhymes and adventures galore. With bellies now full and their imaginations set free, the kids settled in for more Seussian glee.
And so Read Across America Week carried on, with stories and laughter from dusk until dawn. For here at W.D. Williams, it’s always quite clear - a love for a good book lasts year after year!
