New: Summer Learning Program for 4th-8th Grade Students

As part of the recently passed House Bill 47, Buncombe County Schools will receive funding to offer a Summer Learning program for 4th-8th grade students. These BCS Summer Learning Programs will offer instruction in reading and math, as well as enrichment opportunities, which may include the arts, physical activity, CTE, or STEM activities.

We will hire certified and non-certified positions, including teachers who will offer instruction in literacy and/or math and teachers who may support cross-curricular opportunities. We may also hire counselors to provide SEL support and assistants/tutors. There will be full and part-time options for employment.

The dates and times for teachers and students are as follows:

  • Teacher Workdays (2.5): June 18-19 and July 17 (½ day)

    • Teacher Hours: 7:30 am - 2:30 pm

  • Student Days (15): June 23-July 16 (Monday-Thursday)

    • Student Hours: 8:00 am- 1:30 pm

Current plans include a site in each district, but this could change due to enrollment numbers, staffing, and/or construction projects this summer. We will attempt to place you at a site close to the district where you currently work. However, you could be offered employment at any of the sites that match your licensure or at multiple sites.

Compensation for Summer Learning Program will be the employee's base hourly rate of pay based on the 2024-2025 NC salary scale.

The application deadline is April 20, 2025. You must be returning to Buncombe County Schools for the 2025-2026 school year to be eligible for summer employment. Click HERE to apply.
