It’s Read Across America week, and Buncombe County Schools is celebrating all over with lots of great activities and events to promote reading. There were big-kids reading to the little-kids, such as Erwin Middle’s Beta Club reading to Emma Elementary students, or Erwin High’s Career Academy students reading to Johnston Elementary students. There were themed activities such as North Buncombe Elementary’s “Camp Read-A-Thon”, Charles C Bell Elementary’s “Crazy Sock Day”, or Weaverville Elementary’s “Hats off to Reading Day”. Teachers came up with fun and exciting ways to promote reading, such as Hominy Valley Elementary’s “Stop Drop and Read”, or West Buncombe Elementary students reading to their stuffed toys. And Read Across America Week is still happening, with lots of fun themed dress-ups and other activities across our schools.
