March 2nd at Weaverville Elementary and North Buncombe Elementary (NBES) had a special visit from some former students. The North Buncombe High School (NBHS) baseball team showed up at both schools to help celebrate Read Across America week. The high schoolers had the opportunity to show younger students their love for reading. NBES students visited with the team at lunch and in the classrooms as well. NBES principal Heidi Allison says it is always a special moment to bring former students back to where their educational journey began.
“We love having our former students come back to the elementary schools,” she said. “Whether it is for a reading event like today, an Ag day presentation, a Chorus or Band concert or the annual Senior Walk, it warms our hearts to see 'our students' grown up and doing awesome things! In the North Buncombe district, we love our students and follow them as they grow up. It's heartwarming to see them come back to their former elementary schools to give back and to reconnect with their former teachers. We are so thankful to NBHS principal Kevin Yontz and baseball coach Charlie Harrison for supporting our students.”
