Yummy soup and great sounds made a special fundraiser for the A.C. Reynolds High School Key Club come to life. The Key Club spent months planning this Soup Supper which was hosted at Covenant Community Church next door to the school on March 21. There was plenty of food and fellowship and musical entertainment from various Reynolds students.
“We asked restaurants and other volunteers to donate the food- soup, bread, and dessert,” said 10th grader Zoe Love. “Anything helps!”
Money raised at this event benefited MANNA FoodBank. This was one of several Key Club events planned to help this worthy cause. From a silent online auction to canned food drive to donation drive, the entire Reynolds Community came together to support Manna.
“It feels good,” said Zoe. “It’s one of those moments where you realize everyone in the community is a part, no matter what your background is. We all care and we all want to be here. That’s what brings us together.”
Zoe actually helped with this food drive long before she was a student at Reynolds High. Her mother, Beth Love, is a teacher at Reynolds and long-time Key Club advisor. Now that COVID disruptions have ended, Zoe is excited to join as an official member of the club.
“That’s what this is about,” said Beth Love. “Food is a universal need, and it’s something that we can help take care of and, in turn, help the people of Western North Carolina.”
The Key Club’s goal was to raise $5000 dollars/pounds of food. Between all of the events, they will exceed that goal this year.
