Dr. Jackson experienced what makes Clyde A Erwin High #ErwinProud during his recent #45Schoolsin45Days visit.
Erwin High School opened in 1955 as one of six high schools built in Buncombe County, NC, between 1954 and 1962. The school was named to honor the memory of the late North Carolina Superintendent of Public Instruction, Clyde Atkinson Erwin (1897-1952). The school currently serves 1,100 students with 120 faculty and staff. The current building was constructed in 1973, next to the original school, which now serves as Erwin Middle School.
“At Erwin, we are part of a diverse and colorful community that is focused on working together to grow and prepare students for success in academics, the arts, athletics, and the community,” said Principal Chip Cody. “Erwin is unique because of the diversity among the communities it serves and the students that attend. Leicester, Woodfin, Johnston, Emma, and West Buncombe all represent very different populations that come together in the intermediate, middle, and high school.”
