Superintendent’s Comments
Good evening, parents, members of the community, board members, and teammates.
This evening’s comments will be brief as I will have an opportunity to address the Board and Community in just a few moments.
During the month of May we have the opportunity to celebrate more of our teammates with Teacher Appreciation Week, National School Nurses Day, and National Principal Appreciation Day. We know that we are blessed by the dedicated men and women who choose service to children and families as their life’s work. As the school year begins to wind down, may we all take a moment to thank every single person, be they employee, parent, guardian, community supporters and volunteers, for their support of the children of Buncombe County.
Next week, Dr. Reed and the Curriculum Team invite everyone to preview four different materials under consideration for our K-8 Math Curriculum. This is an open drop-in event on May 9, 2023 or May 10, 2023 (4-6 p.m.)
I would like to give a shout-out to Oakley Elementary School. The students, staff, and community recently celebrated 100 years of service to the community with a Centennial Celebration. Seeing former students, now grandparents and great-grandparents walking the hallways of their beloved school reminded me of just how important our schools are to the communities they serve.
One thing I have learned and one thing we know is that students, families, and the community have never needed a strong, loving, and caring school system as much as they do now. We accept this challenge. We commit to each and every one of our students. We will elevate to new and majestic heights. We will give our all, because our students are worthy of our very best efforts.
To our team and to our board members, thank you for all that you do for the students, families, teachers, and staff of Buncombe County Schools.
Madam Chair, this concludes my comments.
