Through his service, dedication, and love for Buncombe County Schools (BCS) and public education, former Superintendent Dr. Tony Baldwin is the newest recipient of one of the highest awards from the Office of the Governor.
Dr. Baldwin was surprised by his close family and friends at T.C. Roberson High School’s senior award ceremony, when his son Taylor Baldwin, BCS Career and Technical Education Director, took the podium to present Dr. Baldwin with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine.
“Growing up, I witnessed firsthand the unwavering dedication and tireless efforts my father poured into shaping the educational landscape of our community,” Taylor Baldwin said. “Presenting my father with this prestigious award was a culmination of a journey spanning both our personal and professional lives. The pride I felt in being able to honor him and express my gratitude was immeasurable.”
Teary-eyed, Taylor gave a heartwarming speech acknowledging his father’s commitment to BCS. The Order of the Long Leaf Pine recognizes retiring individuals who gave 30 or more years of service to the State of North Carolina. Dr. Baldwin was nominated for this achievement by the Human Resource Department at BCS, former University of North Carolina Men’s Basketball Coach Roy Williams, and K. Ray Bailey, former AB Tech President.
“A profound sense of admiration washed over me as I recounted the years of sacrifice and commitment my father had dedicated to education,” Taylor said. “Dr. Baldwin’s influence extends far beyond the walls of his office and the boundaries of his own family. He is an active participant in various community organizations, always striving to make a difference in the lives of those around him. His unwavering commitment to education and the betterment of society has made him a respected advocate for positive change, and his efforts have inspired others to join him on this noble journey.”
