Three high school students in the Enka, Erwin, and Reynolds districts received $1,000 scholarships from the Asheville Kiwanis Club. The Kiwanis Club is a community service club that started for the benefit of the community and students. In 1925 they started Key Clubs in high schools across the world to teach students leadership skills and success through teamwork and to serve their schools and communities through service projects. The Asheville Kiwanis Club sponsors the Key Clubs of Enka, Erwin, and Reynolds high.
The recipients this year all demonstrated a clear commitment to their community through service. These recipients are:
Abigail Przynosch of Enka High School- She is president of their Key Club and has worked on projects for the Red Cross, Soles4Souls, Ukrainian Relief, ESL tutoring, a Prom Dress Drive, The Salvation Army, Eblen Charities Toy Drive, UNICEF, the Enka Annual Beautification Day, and the Kiwanis Biltmore Race. She will use her scholarship to attend Davidson College.
Titus Cowan of Erin High- A member of their Key Club for 2 years, he has helped with school fundraisers, community events, the Spread the Warmth project, the Eco Club, and other environmental and sustainability issues. He will be using his scholarship to attend Montreat College and plans to pursue Criminal Justice.
Allison McKay of Reynolds High- A member of their Key Club for 4 years, she served as Secretary, Webmaster, and Vice President, helping to organize many service projects including their Online Auction and Food Drive for Manna Food Bank, Putt for Hunger, the Linus Project, providing homemade blankets to children in need, and more. She will be using her scholarship to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
