Buncombe County Schools (BCS) had the honor of hosting North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein, who led a social media safety town hall at the BCS Central Services building on Tuesday.
BCS teamed up with Asheville City Schools and the state Department of Justice (NCDOJ) to present “Protecting the Next Generation of North Carolinians: Town Hall on Social Media.” Parents and community members asked questions and shared insights about social media apps, screen time, usage policies, and more at the event. Buncombe County Commissioner Amanda Edwards, Buncombe County Board of Education Vice Chair Amy Churchill, and Asheville City Board of Education Vice Chair Amy Ray joined Mr. Stein to take questions from the audience. Members of the Buncombe County Board of Education, Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office, nonprofits, and other stakeholders also attended the town hall. We thank everyone who joined together to elevate online safety for students.
NCDOJ provides important Internet safety tips on its website, and BCS Student Services recently launched webpages about cyberbullying prevention for parents, students, and teachers.
