Congratulations to the 51 new BCS graduates who walked across the stage at A.C. Reynolds High School during the BCS Summer Academy commencement ceremony on Monday.
The auditorium was packed with proud family, friends, and educators who cheered on the graduates and congratulated them for their successes. It was the culmination of hard work, when students sacrificed their summer days to reach greater heights. BCS Director of Student Services Dr. Shane Cassida was the keynote speaker. In a powerful moment, he took a pile of documents representing student records and began shredding them on the stage.
“When you get this diploma in your hands, no one knows how you got here, but you got here,” he said to applause from the crowd.
Then he asked the graduates to reach under their chairs and pull out blank sheets of paper.
“This represents the next chapter in your life,” he said, holding up a blank sheet of his own. “There’s not any other moment that you may ever encounter like this one. You’re entering a doorway where all things are possible. What is your chapter going to be? How will you write it? What will it say? I can’t wait to find out. Graduates, you have one final assignment. Go live well.”
