After concluding a stellar season, Erwin High Head Football Coach Rodney Pruett continues putting in the hard work. In addition to preparing to lead the Warriors in the new school year, he’s been invited to be part of the coaching staff of the 2025 Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas. The matchup pits the best players and coaches from North Carolina against the best players and coaches in South Carolina.
“I’m very honored to be selected for this prestigious event,” Coach Pruett shared. “I am very happy to represent all the players I've coached throughout my career and all the coaches that have worked beside me for so many years. Without them none of this would be possible.”
The Shrine Bowl Committee chooses the coaching staff for each state’s team. Erwin’s football program earned a lot of attention this past season with 10 wins, tying a school record. The Warriors won the conference championship and made it to the third round of state playoffs.
“This is an honor for the Erwin football program, Erwin High School and the entire Erwin community; I just happen to be the lucky one that was chosen,” said Coach Pruett. “I look forward to the selection process of picking our team and coaching some of the top tier talent in North Carolina and working with the other great coaches picked for this game.”
The Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas is the oldest football all star game in the nation, dating back to 1937. While the date of the 2025 Shrine Bowl is not set, it’s typically played in late December at Spartanburg High School. The game is often replayed Christmas morning on ESPN.
