Baxter Harrill on his knee proposing to his girlfriend Leslie in the commons of A.C. Reynolds High School

It’s been a minute since Baxter Harrill walked the halls of A.C. Reynolds High School. He graduated in 2007. However, when he was planning the perfect proposal for his girlfriend, he knew it was time to come back to Rocket Country.

Baxter met his girlfriend Leslie in 2005, when both were sophomores in Coach Ernest’s Digital Communications class.

“I kept coming back to this idea to propose to her inside of the school, where we first met and fell in love,” Baxter shared. “I would’ve never thought this many years later that Reynolds would sustain so much meaning in my life.”

“In our many years together we have made it through many trials, a pandemic, and most recently a devastating hurricane. To me, this seemed like an excellent way to close one part of our life and begin a brand new one, in the same place we met 20 years ago.”

Baxter got a little help from the school. Leslie is a real estate agent, and thought she was coming to meet with a teacher interested in listing a house. As the two chatted in the commons, principal Ben Alexander led Baxter out of his office to the commons, where he dropped to one knee and pulled out an engagement ring.

Reynolds High SchoolLeslie was completely taken by surprise, and as soon as Baxter shared he wanted to propose in the spot where their journey began, she said “yes”. The two then visited Coach Ernest’s former classroom, room 208, that is now home to Coach Greer’s Sports Marketing classes. Students learned what had just happened down the hall, and clapped and cheered in celebration.
