Students and staff pose with donated books.

📚❤️ Just in time for Spring Break, students at Haw Creek Elementary received a heartwarming surprise- a donation of more than 1,000 books, thanks to the Harrisburg Youth Council and their community in Cabarrus County.

The books, collected as part of the council’s Capstone project, were carefully sorted, catalogued, and delivered to Haw Creek by Harrisburg Communications Director Kacey Nestor.

“Our goal was to inspire reading and get more books into the hands of students, especially in communities impacted by Hurricane Helene,” she said.

HCES student ambassadors joined school staff and Assistant Principal Jeremy Aten to set the books up in the school’s lobby. The books went home with students for some well-deserved Spring Break reading.

“The outpouring of support from communities like Harrisburg Elementary is heartwarming,” Aten said. “We’re so grateful to be able to send a book home with each of our students.”

More than just pages and pictures, these books are a symbol of care, community, and the power of young leaders making a difference.
