The Buncombe County Schools Foundation (BCSF) celebrated the inaugural year of a new college scholarship program. Ten Buncombe County Schools students were awarded the Pratt & Whitney Scholarship on Wednesday, May 18. The scholarships are $1,000 each and awarded to seniors who are advancing their knowledge in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM.)
“In order to help build the workforce for our community, it is vital that our education systems work together to make this happen,” said BCSF Director Christy Cheek. “Believing in, and supporting students through this scholarship program, is an investment in education and is always appreciated. The Foundation is proud to partner with Pratt & Whitney to help students be successful in their STEM careers. We are excited that this inaugural class of Pratt & Whitney scholars are able to take advantage of this opportunity to further their education.”
Pratt & Whitney develops game-changing technologies for the future as they design, manufacture, and service the world’s most advanced aircraft engines and auxiliary power systems. Representatives were on hand Wednesday to show off the promotional banner that will hang at the new Pratt & Whitney and will be used to promote their scholarship programs.
“At Pratt & Whitney we are laser focused on innovation and performance – it's how we design, manufacture and maintain the world's best and most advanced aircraft engines,” said Cataldo Perrone, Communications Manager for Pratt & Whitney of Asheville. “The same can be said of our corporate social responsibility program where we focus our support on programs and partnerships that will inspire the next generation. We are very proud of these scholarship winning students and to partner with the Buncombe County Schools Foundation. We know these bright students will lead the future of innovation and we wish them great success.”
