Dr. Rob Jackson has kicked off his #45SchoolsIn45Days tour! First stop: North Buncombe Middle. He met with staff and students to hear their feedback on what his priorities should be as a new Superintendent. Below are some #FastFacts about North Buncombe Middle.
NBMS was built in 1954 as a high school and became a middle school in 1987.
The school serves students in grades 7 and 8, and students continue on to North Buncombe High School for grade 9.
NBMS has a robust robotics and medical elective through Project Lead the Way. They also maintain an Academically/Intellectually Gifted Program. The other electives offered include: PE, Fine Arts, Career and Technical Education, Exploring Nutrition and Wellness, and athletics. Clubs offered include Junior BETA Club, Ski and Snowboard Club, Student Council, and Future Farmers of America.
“What makes our school special is the culture we have here inside the building-from staff to students; staff to each other; staff to the community; community to students. We love our kids first, we teach them second,” said Principal Dr. Jamie Johnson. “We feel our role as a middle school is to help students feel connected and find their place during these middle grade years. We do our best to love on them and help them find success so they are happy coming to school. That happiness carries over into the high school as they continue their educational journey.”
