An Enka High student walks across part of a treetops course.

🧗‍♂️🧗‍♀️Enka High School (EHS) students took to the trees on Friday to both boost the school’s growing Outdoor Club and apply what they learned about muscle movements in anatomy class.

Braving the chilly weather, EHS students in the Outdoor Club and the anatomy class joined forces to conquer the Adventure Center of Asheville’s Treetops Adventure Park, which features several obstacle courses of varying difficulty.

“These kids will understand muscle fatigue, vascular constriction, isotonic and isometric contractions, and more,” said EHS science teacher Trent Bass. “It’s a great way to learn and a great reason to team up and enjoy the outdoors.”

Rebecca McCord, EHS social studies teacher and Outdoor Club sponsor, said the treetops rope courses help students of varying skill levels learn climbing basics and find challenges that work for each one of them. Later in the school year they will take two rock climbing trips.

“Here they can get more comfortable with each other and with heights in a place that’s close by,” she said. “They get to test their limits, challenge themselves, build perseverance, and form stronger relationships with each other and with their teachers.”

Funding for this trip was made possible by the N.C. Trailblazers Outdoor Clubs.
