School bus drivers showed off their safety skills this week at the Western District School Bus Roadeo.
The event, hosted by the Buncombe County Schools Transportation Department, featured a variety of road obstacles and maneuvers. Drivers demonstrated their ability to maneuver buses through tight obstacles, and how to handle situations needing minimal stopping distances. The event also included functional skill evaluation, such as perfectly performing railroad crossing procedures.
"This is a great opportunity for our drivers to show off all they do each and every day to get our students safely to and from school,” said Jeremy Stowe, Buncombe County Schools Transportation Director. “School buses are big vehicles, and the roads in our area are narrow and crooked. I’m proud that our drivers could shine in this competition.”
Congratulations to Tim Phillips of Johnston Elementary for achieving a top score at this year’s Roadeo.
