🐻🚂📚Johnston Elementary School (JES) is all aboard for literacy.

On Monday, the JES Mighty Bears had a “Polar Express”-themed pajama night that brought families, staff, and community organizations together for hands-on activities and fun stories. The event featured a professional storyteller, music performance, photo booth, rotating literacy stations in the cafeteria, a ceramic ornament activity, and a special treat- hot chocolate and cookies. It was one of many family engagement nights that promote literacy through the school’s Title I reading program.

“The faculty has been really excited, and we’ve all come to the table with creative ideas,” said JES Title I lead reading specialist Maureen Keller. “We’re raising awareness of the importance of literacy and talking about how families can support literacy at home. It’s all about building a community and a network of support for our students to succeed.”
