Good Morning Teammates,
I am incredibly excited to begin this amazing adventure with each of you. I note that my beginning is also the fulfillment of Dr. Baldwin’s season with the school system. As he departs, amidst well-deserved celebrations, I recognize the charge he leaves behind, to continue the quest for success for every single student.
As a former student and as a former employee of this great school system, I know the caliber of teachers, administrators, and staff that the school system has brought together to serve the children of Buncombe County. I am looking forward to getting to know each of you.
To get to know you, I am embarking today on my "Listening and Learning Adventure." I will be making quick visits to all 45 schools and all school system departments over the course of the next eight school days and then will begin to spend a full school day in each school in the school system. After the holidays, I will conduct "town Hall-style" meetings in each district and online. I will also be attending Town Council meetings in each municipality and attending County Commissioner meetings. Throughout all of these visits and in each of the meetings, I will be asking three questions:
What do you love best about this school system?,
What should never change in this school system?, and
What should I be working on first?
I'll be asking you those same three questions as well when I visit your school or work location. I cannot wait to hear from you.
There is no work or purpose higher than the calling to serve children and families. The work you do is important and life-changing. I am honored by the opportunity to join you in this work as we give our all for every single student.
