Dr. Rob Jackson continued his #45SchoolsIn45Days full-day visits to all of our campuses at Barnardsville Elementary School on Monday.
Barnardsville is nestled in the northern portion of the North Buncombe District. Home to about 100 students and 40 staff members, it’s one of our smallest schools. The Barnardsville Ivy Hawks are proud of their heritage and look forward to the future. Visitors to the school campus may view the Memory Tiles that adorn the hallways and pay tribute to many of the students, staff, parents, and community members who have loved and supported this small rural school through the years. The school building is a symbol of the community's strength and pride.
This tight-knit and supportive community works together to ensure student success. Principal Houchard is most proud of the dedication and willingness of staff to work together to provide an excellent educational experience in a loving environment.
Among the unique programs offered to students is their STEM lab. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) is a hands on, collaborative, and project-based style of teaching and learning. Students are given a challenge, parameters are set, and students have to problem-solve and work together until they find the solution.
“Barnardsville is a true community school,” said Principal Holly Houchard. “Parents of most of our students attended Barnardsville as children, as did many of their grandparents. The community loves the school and is proud to send their kids to BES. They know that they are safe, educated well, and loved. As you walk through the hallways at Barnardsville, you will see handprints on the wall from generations previous and present. At Barnardsville, we love our students first. We love them enough to set academic goals just within reach and help them meet their goals. We're able to do that due to our smaller class size and capable and caring adults.”
